Are you a finance professional who wants to work in a unique environment, helping the City Corporation build on its successes by developing and evolving, so it can continue to impact in the City, across London and globally?

The City of London Corporation is the governing body of the Square Mile, but their work goes beyond that of a local authority and their impact echoes far beyond these boundaries. They are dedicated to a vibrant and thriving City, but their work contributes to a diverse and sustainable London as well as a globally successful UK.

In addition to the usual services provided by a local authority they run their own Police Force, the nation’s Central Criminal Court, maintain five London Bridges and are the London Port Health Authority for the river Thames. They also have responsibility for food markets, over 11,000 acres of green spaces across London and cultural institutions such as the Barbican Centre. The City Bridge Trust, their charitable funder, has awarded 7,500 grants totalling £350 million to charities supporting Londoners so far.

Over the last year the finance team has been through a huge transformation programme, focusing on modernising and improving the support they are giving the Corporation. They are now recruiting the final few roles to continue this transformation journey, improve governance and support key areas across the Corporation.

The Senior Accountant will work in the financial reporting team, playing a lead role on the close down and statutory reporting of City Fund accounts, the City Corporation’s Local Authority elements. The role will also be focused on driving through improvements around the year end process, including looking at automation and improving relationships across finance. The role will be expected to contribute to the development of an innovative, high performance and continuous improvement culture and includes line management of staff and trainees.

To be suitable for the role at a Grade E (£43,360 – £51,530) you need to be a part qualified accountant with a good knowledge of financial accounting, ideally in a public sector setting. The ability to translate complex financial information to senior stakeholder to aid decision making is also essential.

To be suitable for the role at a Grade F (£52,530 – £62,390), you must be fully qualified with significant experience of financial accounting in a public sector setting. As well as being a professional lead, providing financial expertise to customers and developing an innovative, high performance and continuous improvement culture.

City of London offer a hybrid working model.

To apply for the role, please send through a CV and supported statement. The statement should be no more than 2 pages and should say why you are interested in the role and highlight your relevant experience.
