Lucy Dinning is not your average 16-year-old. A finalist of the 15-17-Year-Old Category of the Wicked Young Writer Awards, she is talented and extremely creative, grounded by a strong family bond, from her Mother and Father, through to her older sister. A lover of drama, musical theatre and books, Lucy was encouraged from a very young age to pursue her interest in recording and writing about personal events.
Turning a small idea into something much bigger and more significant” excites the young aspiring author, creating pieces that impact the readers in a way that provides an insight into her life. Reflecting an essence of authenticity and relevance, that extracts a maturity above her years,

Having chosen to enter Wicked Young Writer Awards, Lucy explains that her reasons were to enter a competition that did not restrict her choice of subject, whilst appealing to her love of theatre. Taking inspiration from Philip Pulman and Ransom Riggs, whom offer an alternative world, whilst ensuring their work remains relatable to the reader, Lucy decided to submit a piece that gave others an insight into what it is like to have a disability.

“I love stories with a twist and wanted the reader to be genuinely surprised at the ending.”

For Young Writers keen to get involved in creative writing as a profession, Lucy takes a different perspective, reflecting on her own personal experience, recommending a reading log to help keep a record of books they have enjoyed. For Lucy, it gave her a lot of inspiration when looking at different ideas for her own stories.
