Anxiety cannot help but destroy one’s ability to be happy. Learn how to eliminate this form of anxiety.

Ego anxiety is caused by thinking catastrophically about some potential future event that you perceive to be undesirable and onerous. It is anxiety about something yet to happen, some possible events that would be unbearable for us.

So, ego anxiety is caused by our thinking and judgment that something would be awful, horrible or terrible to have to experience that event. In other words, it is caused when we ‘hold two twin beliefs, one that leads to the other, then the other leading back to the first one, and on-and-on into a never-ending cycle of cause-and-effect.’

These thoughts are irrational because they block our happiness, make us be a perfectionist, leads us to think that we are the centre of the universe and lastly because they are illogical and even egotistical.

Now when you’re aware of (your) ego anxiety, here are some tips on how to get rid of it:

1. Review your day at the end of your day and especially focus on a situation and catastrophic belief in which you experienced anxiety. Think of how this makes you anxious and assure yourself that they are false. Replace them with rational thoughts.

2. Six times a day take five minutes to review rational thoughts and apply them. Even if you’re assuring yourself that rational thoughts and positive outcomes will prevail, remember that you’re still a worthwhile person even if you don’t turn out as you would like.
